Green Building

Charlie and Nancy Shea of C.R. Shea Homes, Inc. recently completed the “Certified Green Professional” training course developed by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). C.R. Shea Homes, Inc. has been proactive for years discovering and implementing energy conservation practices and prudent resource utilization in the homes that they are privileged to build. Their new CGP designation will help keep them on the leading edge of Green Building as they prepare for the next building cycle.

What is a Certified Green Professional (CGP)?
CGP is an exclusive designation a builder can obtain when they successfully complete the training course developed by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The course is designed to educate the builder on the importance of the many aspects that make a home today more energy efficient, higher performance, and eco-friendly.

The five key areas are:

  1. House and site design, preparation and development
  2. Resource Efficiency
  3. Energy Efficiency
  4. Water Efficiency
  5. Indoor Air Quality

Each of these items is broken down into numerous functions that are needed to complete the building process. Excavation, foundation, framing, HVAC, plumbing, insulation, windows, appliances, light fixtures, roofing, house wraps, interior design & materials and landscaping all play an important role in building green.

A builder with the CGP designation knows and understands the importance of green building. They can assist you in helping your new project become whatever level or shade of green you’d like to accomplish. Many builders claim to be green, but are they? Make sure you ask about their designation and what makes them green. At C.R. Shea Homes we know how to answer your questions and we are happy to share our knowledge about green building. Our goal is to build the best, most sustainable, and practical homes for our clients and the environment. Click to learn more.
